For those trail blazers out there, you might want to save your yen next year to make this show and see an amazing country in the process.

The 2007 Taipei International Cycle Show--the largest bicycle industry exhibition in Asia--is expected to attract more than 4,000 foreign buyers, including several internationally renowned bike enterprises, according to the Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA) which organized the event.

The show, which opened Saturday at the Taipei World Trade Center and will last until March 27, is comprised of a total of 2,299 booths set up by 694 companies, marking an unprecedented growth in scale, TAITRA official said yesterday.

The official predicted that the number of foreign buyers would break the 4,000 mark, the spokesman said. Major purchasers--including top British bike company "Halfords", the United States-based "Trek" and the LAMPA S.P.A. of Italy --have sent representatives to visit the show and conduct purchasing negotiations with exhibiting companies.

TAITRA has organized up to 100 bike trade consultation meetings for those interested in placing orders.

Among visitors making purchases, Grupo SBF -- the largest sports equipment store chain in Brazil, with an annual turnover of US$270 million (NT$8.18 million) -- at the Taipei exhibition for the first time, according to the official.

He added that as well as bicycle-related products, Grupo SBF will place orders for articles and equipment fortennis, soccer, table tennis and in-line skates as well as other sport commodities.
