Trade Show Booths: How to Use PR to Increase Traffic

Getting the right amount of exposure for your trade show booth is very important in order to get the traffic, leads, and new clients you want. Social media is an affordable and effective way to accomplish this task, but reaching the right media outlets through PR is equally as important. Here are a few tips on getting the trade show results you want through a successful PR campaign.

  1. Be Nice to Trade Show Management and Organizers You are going to need the media list from trade show management and organizers, so be especially nice to them. A little kindness can go a long way (especially if you need something, like that list.)
  2. Encourage Your Audience Through Press Releases Write a press release that tells everyone about the special giveaways, drawings, discounts, demos, or any other activities that will surround your show display. Send this press release to everyone on the coveted media list (see #1). Also include the location information of your display stand to make it easier for everyone to find it.
  3. Staff Your Booth Well Trade shows can be very busy and hectic, but there are usually journalists or reporters roaming around the convention floors searching for exhibitors to interview. Staff your trade show display booth with enough employees so that, even during busy times, there will be someone available and eager to do an interview on the spot.
  4. Put Together a Media Kit Give members of the media something to leave your trade show booths display system with by preparing media kits. These kits should include CD s or jump drives with information on your company. Have this information available on your website and carry extras at your convention booth in case there are any media you were not expecting at the event.
  5. Practice Your Interviewing Skills Prepare yourself and your staff for the interview questions by practicing. Make sure everyone is comfortable with any questions that may get thrown their way.
  6. If You Missed Anyone from the Media List, Contact Them Send out emails, letters, or give them a call to let them know you are sorry your missed them at the trade show, but would still be interested in discussing your exhibit booth and company offerings with them.
