Never Forget Your Trade Show Survival Kit

trade show survival kitIt is often true that the smallest of incidents can set you back, or even stop the trade show display completely. It is like having the right tools at the right time to get a specific job done. You simply never know when you will need the smallest of items to get you through a difficult or challenging moment. Then too, your survival kit could potentially help attendees of the show as well. Of course one cannot plan for every contingency, but this article provides a useful checklist for your trade show survival kit.

If this were my trade show display survival kit, I would place all of the following items into a medium size duffle bag or suitcase:

  • Small First-Aid kit especially for small cuts and other minor injuries
  • Aspirin or Tylenol for that splitting headache from the tradeshow lighting and noise, as well as other aches and pains
  • Antacid tablets for the fast food and unhealthy diet during the show
  • Needle and thread for any quick repairs
  • Wet wipes are so versatile to have around
  • Nail polish and emery board to repair finger nails (which can harm graphics), or to repair a run in nylons
  • Breath mints but NOT chewing gum, because it looks unprofessional
  • Stain stick just in case you spill something on your clothing
  • Spare shirt/blouse/necktie again, just in case
  • Small tool kit (including):
    • Packing tape
    • Velcro
    • Small hammer
    • Pliers
    • Screwdrivers
    • Small screws
    • Glue
    • Flashlight/batteries
    • Spare light bulbs
    • Twist ties
    • Plastic wrap
    • Felt-tip pens for touch-ups to graphics or to make a quick sign
    • Paper towels always a good thing to have
    • Spray cleaner to keep counters, tables, kiosks, and chairs clean and appealing
  • General office supplies
    • Logo pens (or inexpensive pens) and paper
    • Stapler
    • Paper clips

In closing, the 5-P s are essential: Proper Planning Prevents Poor Performance! Of course your survival kit will become customized, and evolve over time, but it will prove to be indispensable. Let s hope you will not need any of these items, but if you do you ll be glad you are well prepared.
