Trade Show Body LanguageSometimes the most effective language at trade shows doesn t involve speaking, but rather has to do with how you present yourself. There are a number of ways that you can drive away business just by the things you are doing. Here are 5 ways your body language can help bring traffic to your show booth without having to say a word.

 

Make Eye Contact and Smile

When you or your staff is looking at something other than the attendee, it will appear as if you don t want anyone to speak with you. One way to fix this is by making eye contact with everyone that enters your trade show exhibit booth, as well as keeping a smile on your face for a warm and friendly impression your visitors can take away from your show display.

Posture is Important

When someone sees a person with great posture, meaning opening up his or her body and keeping your shoulders back, it exudes confidence and power. Changing your posture could also give you the self-assurance that you can take risks and become a leader that will help you become a success at the show.

A Facial Expression is Worth a Thousand Words

As I mentioned before, eye contact and a friendly face is important if you want to make attendees feel comfortable approaching you. Not only should you do this when people are approaching your booth exhibit, but also when you are in the middle of a conversation with potential customers. Show them you are interested in what they have to say with the right facial expression.

Lean Towards the Attendee

One way to show you are interested in what the attendee has to say is by the way you are leaning. Leaning towards the person you re speaking with shows you are engaged and listening to what they have to say. If you are leaning back, it could look as if you are trying to leave.

Don t Use Handheld Devices on the Show Floor

Whether you have an iPad, smart phone, or other handheld device, the only time it is acceptable to use them is if you are using them with a client or lead. Speaking from an attendee s perspective, it would look as if you are busy with something more important if you have your head down and are concentrating on whatever is on the screen you are looking at. Unless you have a break or the trade show is over, handheld devices shouldn't be used.
