Planning for an event can be an extremely stressful job. From designing the trade show display booth
and ordering marketing materials to deciding who will staff the booth can be overwhelming. Preparing for a trade show does not have to be stressful, but can actually be fun. Here are some ways you can stay calm as you continue planning for an upcoming event.
Make a To-Do List
Sometimes just thinking about all that needs to be done can cause you to feel anxious. To help you stay calm during the days, weeks, or months leading up to the big show, create a detailed to-do list. This list should include every task that needs to be done and when it needs to be completed. Do not be afraid to ask for help. The more hands you have working on this list, the more efficiently it will get done.
Do Not Try to Multitask
Sure, we may think we can send important emails while watching TV or design a custom display while talking to a friend on the phone, but are doing the best job we can? All of these little distractions will end up taking away the energy and effort we could be putting into projects needed for the upcoming event. Limit technology, such as tablets, phones, or social media, unless it is needed for the tasks at hand.
Get Some Exercise
Daily exercise has been known for decreasing stress levels and working as a mood booster. I am not saying that you have to hit the gym, but doing low impact workouts like walking or yoga can have a profound impact on how you feel. If the weather is favorable, go for a walk outside in order to breathe in the fresh air and clear you mind for a little bit of all that needs to get done.
Get a Massage
Trade show planning is the perfect excuse to spend the day at the spa. Get pampered with a massage and feel the tension and worry melt away. A massage not only relaxes the mind and body, but has been known to help with digestive problems, anxiety, headaches, and insomnia. If you do not think you have time or the budget for a professional massage, ask for one from your significant other.
Go Out With Friends
Take your mind off of your trade show stress by going out with some friends for a drink, dinner, or a fun activity you enjoy doing together. This is a great way to blow off some steam and enjoy the company of those near and dear to you.
Preparing for an event takes time and energy, which can be stressful and worrisome for the booth planner, especially one who has never planned a trade show before. Use these tips to help keep your cool when preparing for your next show.
