How to Effectively use Social Media at Trade Shows

Not only has social networking become popular in marketing departments, but they have also become a huge part trade show exhibiting.

Everyone is using it in their trade show displays as a way to connect with attendees and exhibitors prior to the convention. Here are some tips on how to make the most of social media to attract more traffic to your display system.

Use Relevant Hash Tags

By using hash tags with the name of the event or industry-related keywords, you ll be able to find people with similar interests or who are planning on going to the trade show. I have found 2 websites that make it very easy to follow specific hash tags and find out who has mentioned you: Hootsuite and TweetDeck. Both websites allow you to see all of your mentions, hash tags, and people you are following on one page.

Give an Incentive

Everyone likes free stuff or discounts, so the best way to get people to drive to the event and stop by your trade show exhibits would be to offer an incentive with a time frame. The first 50 people will get a free gift or I am taking $20 off my product until noon are all incentives that would help motivate more people to stop by your trade show display.

Post Videos

You can tell people all day how wonderful your convention booth is, but until they won t believe it until they see it with their own eyes. Bring a camera to the trade show and record interviews with happy clients or your booth staff, interview a speaker that will be holding a seminar or presentation at your booth, or simply walk around your display system to show everyone how cool it is. These efforts will all be for nothing unless you post them during the show instead of after. Either bring a phone that records videos and can easily post them online or bring a camera that can connect directly into a laptop.

About 76 percent of attendees already know what trade show displays they will visit before even getting to the show. By using social media before and during the trade show, you have a better chance of being on their list of must-see booths and increasing traffic.
