Tradeshow Industry Continues to Outperform the Economy

Smash Hit Displays is excited to report on the latest trends associated with the tradeshow industry.

Recently, the Center for Exhibition Industry Research (CEIR) - in its calculation of the latest CEIR Index data - reported that 2011 fourth quarter activity in the tradeshow/exhibition industry increased by 3.8% over the fourth quarter of 2010. In addition, the statistics indicate that the tradeshow industry also grew by a generous 2.7% during the entire 2011 year over 2010 levels. These numbers are especially favorable considering that the real GDP in the United States only grew 1.6% in the fourth quarter of 2011 when compared to 2010 GDP fourth quarter results. "The positive momentum of the exhibition industry, which has experienced six consecutive quarters of growth, gives strong reassurance that the industry has emerged from the economic downturn and is making progress toward recovery, said Allen Shaw, Ph.D., CEIR s economist and the Chief Economist for Global Economic Consulting Associates, Inc.

The CEIR Index, itself, measures the annual performance of the tradeshow or exhibition industry. More specifically, the CEIR index looks at four important metrics that include: (1) Net Square Feet of Exhibit Space Sold (2) Professional Attendance (3) Number of Exhibiting Companies; and (4) Gross Revenue. Moreover, this index studies a number of different tradeshow sectors that include: Business Services, Discretionary Consumer Services, Consumer Goods, Food, Education, Legal, Financial, Real Estate, and a number of different industries.

The CEIR Index will formerly be released at the SISO CEO on March 26, 2012 with an industry update to be presented at the CEIR Predict conference on September 13, 2012 in New York. The CEIR President and CEO, Doug Ducate, had the following to say about the study: We are very pleased with the results we are seeing. The data continues to show a positive upswing and confirms the prediction of moderate growth made in last year s Index. This is very positive for the industry and the individual sectors.
